The Manufacturing Design Engineer is responsible for identifying and implementing process improvement projects that support the financial and strategic priorities of the organization.

The role is responsible for leading site Lean Transformation Kaizens and driving cross-functional process improvement projects. This will require consulting with business leaders and team members across the organization. Will drive improved efficiency, quality, profitability, internal communication, & customer experience.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Interfaces with R&D engineering, Quality and Regulatory in coordinating the release of new products;
  • Estimates production cost, determines time standards and makes recommendations for tooling and process requirements of new or existing product lines;
  • Identifies training for production related activities;
  • Develop floor layout or assist with production equipment setup of new or existing production lines/equipment;
  • Drive focused Lean initiatives based on the strategic priorities and needs of the company;
  • Conduct and Manage A3 problem solving to create stability in manufacturing processes across the organization;
  • Manage project feasibility and business case development, matching projects to the strategic priorities of the organization;
  • Determine applicability of project ideas to strategic plans and priorities;
  • Drive local leadership and executive-level leadership to actions to improve operations performance;
  • Apply principles of Lean, such as Takt Time planning, Kaizen, Single Piece Flow, Pull, Standardized Work, Value Stream Mapping, Visual Factory Management, Continuous Improvement, and Standard Factory;
  • Manage implementation of Lean Transformations, serve as a subject matter expert/resource during implementation;
  • Provide support to functional leaders with planning and implementing Lean projects that tie strongly to business financials;
  • Manage complex projects that cut across various organizational and functional boundaries;
  • Conduct Kaizen events using Lean tools to achieve desired results with measurable metrics while mentoring and coaching others to drive project execution and implementation.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical/ Manufacturing/ Industrial Engineering;
  • Manufacturing Engineering experience in Medical Devices, specifically Cardio-Vascular products is preferred;
  • 5+ years of experience of Lean deployment;
  • 5 + years of project management experience of leading small to medium size projects from initiation to commercialization within the medical device or a similar regulated industry;
  • Six Sigma certified (Black Belt) preferred;
  • Experience in CTQ assessment and translating CTQ into manufacturing specifications;
  • Experience in performing gap assessments between design outputs and manufacturing specifications;
  • Understanding of manufacturing concepts like Value Stream mapping, 5S and Visual Workplace to improve quality, labor efficiency, and throughput;
  • Experience in Manufacturing process improvements;
  • Ability to understand CAD drawings;
  • Knowledge of Geometric Dimension and Tolerance (GD&T);
  • Strong hands-on prototyping skills;
  • Ability to coordinate test sample builds;
  • Strong oral and written communication skills;
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills;
  • Ability to work independently and within a cross-functional team;
  • Strong problem solving skills;
  • Proven project management skills.
